Keeping on time & on track

    You need to assume responsibility for ensuring the agenda keeps to time so

    • Estimate the amount of time to spend on each topic and manage that during the meeting…if something is evidently complex and expanding and seems important enough agree separate session to expand on it later rather than letting it take up the whole meeting.

    • Identify who leads on each topic which will help focus the discussion and lessen waffle by less informed persons.

    • You may feel the meeting is at a critical point and is worth maintaining the flow of a discussion/decision point…if so you can decide to ask if members are happy to stay for xx more time (if the venue is still available) but that should then be a definite guillotined time contract.
    • Regardless always make sure any topics that did not get fully covered are followed up either by another meeting or in one on one sessions afterwards..don’t just lose them because you ran out of time.
